About Me
I have a strong sense of integrity that drives my commitment to family, friendships, community, and the important business of providing the highest quality services to my clients. Having been married for more than 30 years with two adult children, a thriving clinical practice of nearly 30 years, and many quality friendships developed over the decades, I can offer life experience that often helps my clients feel comforted knowing I have walked some similar paths. I am lucky to say that I have loved my work consistently and feel humbled by my clients’ willingness to open their lives to me in the interest of growth, healing and greater connection to those they love.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified addiction counselor. I was born and raised in New Mexico where I attended New Mexico State University and graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice in 1992 and received a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1997. I grew up in a small town in South Central New Mexico and moved to Colorado in 1997.
With nearly 3 decades of experience in Longmont, Boulder, Ft. Collins and Denver, I have worked with adolescents, children, families, couples, and individual adults facing a diverse set of challenges. I have experience in many venues including foster placement, group homes, adolescent shelters, and adolescent residential treatment centers. I have collaborated with juvenile probation and alternative sentencing programs, mental health centers, department of vocational rehabilitation, public schools, and many others. It is with experience, both as a clinician and simply as a person progressing through many stages of life, that I have accumulated the knowledge and wisdom necessary for success helping hundreds of clients navigate their own life challenges.
The field of marriage and family therapy focuses special attention on the dynamics within systems, families, and between individuals that can give rise to psychological and relational challenges that all of us face throughout our lives. Whether you are seeking help individually or as part of a couple or family, my systemic training, philosophies, and theories can help you in ways some clinicians may fall short. We all live as part of systems, whether it is at work, school, with family, and in our communities. Having a therapist that considers the complexities involved in your life will prove immensely helpful during your therapeutic journey.
I am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). This organization has been integral in the development and expansion of the field that has been so helpful for countless families in our country. The AAMFT has also been a leader in its commitment to a very high standard of ethics, which I have gladly adopted for my own practice. See the Resources page for a link that will provide important resources for you.

What to Expect in Therapy
You may choose to contact me via email and ask some questions about my qualifications and ability to help. I will happily take the time to answer your questions, and it may be necessary to follow up on the phone. I occasionally speak with people for a few minutes to assess the possible match for us in therapy, however it has been my experience it often takes 2-3 sessions for clients to determine their ability to build trust with a new therapist. Frequently asked questions include whether I currently have availability, my hours of operation, my experience with issues like yours, and whether I accept your insurance. At your first appointment, you can expect me to review your intake documents (see the Intake Forms page), ask questions relevant to establishing your needs, initial treatment goals, and emotional/functional status. We will certainly have time to begin getting to know one another as the quality of this relationship is crucial in the overall potential helpfulness of therapy. I am often interested in knowing about past therapy experiences you may have had and what was beneficial or lacking. You can expect me to take considerable notes in the first session or two as I get to know your situation, background, and needs. Some note-taking may be needed in subsequent sessions as I am committed to capturing critical details necessary for my ongoing assessment and treatment planning. I occasionally may ask you to discuss how you think therapy is going. I always appreciate this type of exchange as it offers both of us a sense that we are collaborating and communicating in a manner most conducive to growth and success. You can trust that I will approach your feedback with understanding, impartiality, and an open mind, helping you feel at ease and supported.
Away from the Office…
When not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors, camping, fly fishing, hiking and traveling around the western US. I spent much of my younger life working with my father in his automotive garage and still find great satisfaction in working on my own vehicles. I love spending time with my family and maintaining our home in Longmont. My elderly parents recently moved to Longmont, and I find great joy in supporting them as we navigate this stage of life together.
